Reporting to Parents and Caregivers

Schedule:

Term 2- Student Led Conferences
Term 3 -Parent / Teacher / Student Interviews
Term 4 -Written Reports include a Learning Summary Report and the Reflective Journal

We will make arrangements for new families enrolling in our school (at any level) to meet with their child/ren’s teacher to discuss learning expectations for the year.

Parents can request interviews throughout the year by contacting teachers directly at the school.  We welcome parent requests to meet and discuss their children’s learning progress.

Learning Portfolio - Educa:

Every child has an online Learning Portfolio which we use to share and report on student learning and progress.  This online portfolio will provide ongoing real-time reporting, providing a secure and interactive environment where teachers and parents/whānau can share learning stories, photos and videos, and collaborate on student learning.  The platform provides opportunity for students to also reflect on their progress, set goals and celebrate special 'aha’ moments in their learning.  Through the use of a Learning Portfolio children are taught skills of reflection, self-assessment and goal setting.  This helps them become more articulate about their own learning. You are able to access your child’s portfolio via your home or work computer, or via the Educa App available on both iphone and android.

Progress and Achievement Folder:

Every child will have a Progress and Achievement Folder in which learning progress will be tracked across all learning areas of the NZ Curriculum.  It will include ‘progressions’ for learning across all year levels.  This will show families the learning progress of their child over time.

Teacher Assessment Practices

Teachers use a range of sources to make an over-all ‘teacher judgment' about your child’s achievement.  These include: observations, interviews with children, comparing a child’s learning example with an exemplar and formal testing.

Home - School Partnership

Home - School Partnership

Student learning progress is achieved by the school and home working in partnership.  At home you can support your child’s learning by spending time with them to play games together, talking about current events, doing family chores, watching documentaries, and reading for example.

Home Learning Programme:

Your child may bring home an outline for the week’s home learning.  It is optional.  It may include:

* Specific and generic tasks set by the teacher (some of which may be accessed from website).

* Student self-selected learning tasks to practice learning.

* Student self-selected learning tasks to complete.

Student Online Learning Portfolios (Educa)

Every child has an online Learning Portfolio which we use to share and report on student learning and progress.  This online portfolio will provide ongoing real-time reporting, providing a secure and interactive environment where teachers and parents/whānau can share learning stories, photos and videos, and collaborate on student learning.  You are able to access your child’s portfolio via your home or work computer, or via the Educa App available on both iphone and android

Parent/Caregiver Involvement

We welcome and value parent/caregiver involvement in our school. You may wish to be involved by providing help in your child/ren’s classroom, assisting with transport on trips or by joining the Fundraising Committee or working bees. When visiting the school, please report to the Office.

Parent support in classrooms is negotiated with teachers and parents and based on learning needs. You are welcome to contact the classroom teacher or principal if you are interested in providing support.

Student Behaviour Management Plan

Te Uku School Student Behaviour Management Plan

GOAL: To maintain a safe, respectful learning environment for all students and staff.

We believe:

  • Effective behaviour management is essential to sustaining a learning environment in which everyone’s rights and responsibilities are addressed.
  • Behaviour learning is an important and integral part of the school curriculum.
  • Behaviour learning requires children to actively reflect on both appropriate and inappropriate behaviours.

We know that:

  • Behaviour is learned
  • Behaviour is conditioned
  • Behaviour is purposeful
  • Behaviour is chosen
  • Behaviour communicates information about needs
  • Behaviour can be the result of BDS (Bad Day Syndrome) caused by tiredness, friendship hassles, hunger, sickness, loss, etc
  • Behaviour can be changed
  • Behaviour is taught

We expect ALL students to behave appropriately. We know that we have to support children to maintain consistently appropriate behaviour. Therefore, our behaviour management practices are focused on:

  • Preventing and minimising inappropriate behaviours
  • Encouraging appropriate behaviours
  • Correcting inappropriate behaviours
  • Repairing and rebuilding relationships when things have gone wrong
  • Applying consequences for inappropriate behaviours (either immediately or after consultation with other teachers / parents)
